Ingredients

  • 1 medium sweet potato
  • 2-3 tbsp breast milk, formula, or water (optional)

Method

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Wash and peel the sweet potato, then cut it into 1-inch cubes for even roasting.

Peeling removes any dirt or pesticides, but you can leave the skin on for extra fiber if organic and well-scrubbed.

  2. 2

Place the sweet potato cubes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Roast for 25-30 minutes until tender and easily pierced with a fork.

Roasting brings out natural sweetness; avoid adding oil or seasonings for babies under 12 months.

  3. 3

Let the sweet potatoes cool slightly, then transfer to a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth, adding breast milk, formula, or water as needed to reach desired consistency.

Start with a thin puree for beginners (6-7 months) and thicken for older babies. Check temperature before serving.

  4. 4

Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freezer for up to 3 months.

Freeze in ice cube trays for portion control. Sweet potato is low-allergenic but introduce alone first to monitor for reactions.
