Ingredients

  • 1 medium apple
  • 1 medium pear
  • 2-3 tbsp water (optional)

Method

  1. 1

Peel, core, and dice the apple and pear into small, even pieces.

Choose ripe, sweet varieties like Gala apples or Bartlett pears for a smoother texture.

  2. 2

Place the diced fruit in a small saucepan with 2-3 tablespoons of water (optional to prevent sticking).

Steaming instead of boiling preserves more nutrients; use a steamer basket if available.

  3. 3

Cover and cook over medium heat for 8-10 minutes until the fruit is soft and easily mashed with a fork.

Check occasionally and add a splash more water if needed to avoid burning.

  4. 4

Let the cooked fruit cool slightly, then transfer to a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth, adding a little cooking liquid or water if necessary to reach desired consistency.

For younger babies, blend thoroughly; for older ones, leave it slightly chunky to encourage chewing.

  5. 5

Serve warm or cool, and store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze in ice cube trays for up to 3 months.

Always test temperature before feeding to avoid burns, and discard any uneaten portions from the bowl.
