Simple Carrot Puree

A smooth, sweet, and nutritious first food for babies. Carrots are rich in beta-carotene (which converts to vitamin A), supporting healthy vision and immune function. This single-ingredient puree is gentle on baby's developing digestive system and introduces them to vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium carrots
  • 1/4 cup water (optional)

Method

  1. 1

Peel the carrots and slice them into thin rounds or small chunks for faster cooking.

Choose organic carrots if possible to reduce pesticide exposure, and wash them thoroughly even if peeling.

  2. 2

Place the carrots in a steamer basket over boiling water, cover, and steam for 10-12 minutes until very tender when pierced with a fork.

Steaming preserves more nutrients than boiling, but boiling is fine if you don't have a steamer—just use minimal water.

  3. 3

Transfer the cooked carrots to a blender or food processor, adding a little cooking liquid or water if needed, and blend until completely smooth.

For younger babies (6-7 months), blend until silky smooth; for older babies (8+ months), leave it slightly textured if they're ready.

  4. 4

Let the puree cool to a safe temperature before serving, and store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze in ice cube trays for up to 3 months.

Always test the temperature on your wrist before feeding to avoid burns. Thaw frozen portions in the refrigerator overnight.
